About | Nick

Call me Nick.

I am a research scientist, a teacher, a gamer, an amateur photographer, and a movie goer – which inevitably leaves me with a lot to ramble about. Albeit I cannot drag on for hundreds of pages like Ishmael, I can go on for quite a bit about about my research, video games, movies, etc.

I believe being a research scientist and a teacher go hand in hand.  The fruition of your ideas are lost if you cannot communicate them to others.  Others can only utilize and expand upon your work provided you can enlighten them to what exactly it is that you have accomplished.  For my masters thesis, I proposed automatic reconstruction of buildings from the triangulated irregular network (TIN) of LiDAR data.  For my PhD dissertation, I proposed the automatic detection of buildings from aerial imagery and LiDAR data and then alignment (registration) of the two different sources of data.  In layman’s terms, my research focuses on automatically finding buildings in remote sensing imagery and then reconstructing those detected buildings into 3D objects.

Moving right along – a gamer. I definitely love to play video games.  I am a big fan of the Final Fantasy Series, Half Life, Civilization, Call of Duty, and Max Payne.

Movies! I LOVE to watch movies! At least once a month I am out at the movie theater catching yet another flick. For the most part, my favorite genres are action, adventure, martial arts, and suspense. But I often also see movies outside these categories. Some of my favorites, off the top of my head at the moment would be the following: Indiana Jones Trilogy; Star Wars Trilogy (i like IV through VI more than I through III); Matrix Trilogy; Snatch; The Last Samurai; Gladiator; Cowboy Bepop Knock’n on Heaven’s Door; Final Fantasy Advent Children; All Four Die Hard Movies; Hunt for the Read October; Heat; Clear and Present Danger; Saving Private Ryan; Hackers; Plunkett and Macleane; Braveheart; Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, and the list goes on and on…

As an Electrical Engineer, of course I am into Electronics: TVs, Computers, Consoles, etc. I recently built my own computer and then shortly after that overclocked it.

So there’s way too much about me. I will hopefully divulge even more in the future blog posts to come. In the mean time I leave you with words in which I live by, a creed in which to tackle every rising challenge you face on a daily basis:

You are about to embark upon the Great Crusade, toward which we have striven these many months. The eyes of the world are upon you. The hope and prayers of liberty-loving people everywhere march with you. In company with our brave Allies and brothers-in-arms on other Fronts, you will bring about the destruction of the German war machine, the elimination of Nazi tyranny over the oppressed peoples of Europe, and security for ourselves in a free world. Your task will not be an easy one. Your enemy is will trained, well equipped and battle-hardened. He will fight savagely. I have full confidence in your courage, devotion to duty and skill in battle. We will accept nothing less than complete Victory! Good luck! And let us beseech the blessing of Almighty God upon this great and noble undertaking.
