Free Utilities for Overclocking

There are several freely available programs I use for Overclocking my computer.  These utilities are great for verifying your computer’s overclock (such as the ram and processor speed) as well as your computer’s stability.

MemSet – a memory tweaker which allows you to view and adjust your memory timings within windows.

Prime95 – Prime95 is the name of the Microsoft Windows based distributed client software written by George Woltman that is used by GIMPS, the distributed computing project researching Mersenne primes.  Prime95 became popular among PC enthusiasts and overclockers as its number-crunching algorithms exercise the computer’s processor and memory to their limits. Recent versions of Prime95 include a Torture Test mode designed specifically for stressing PC subsystems.  The latest version can be found via their ftp site <here>.

OCCT – OCCT (stands for “OverClock Checking Tool) is a CPU stability testing program.  One distinguishing feature about this software is there is a “1 hour long Mix test.”  I find this particularly useful for establishing within an hour if your OC is stable before proceeding to a 8 hour + prime95 test.

CPU-Z – is a freeware that gathers information on some of the main devices of your system.  This is a good tool for verifying various parameters of your overclock (such as posting your OC’d CPU FSB speed).

CoreTemp – is a compact, no fuss, small footprint program to monitor CPU temperature.

RealTemp – is a temperature monitoring program designed for all Intel single Core, Dual Core and Quad Core processors.

3DMark06 – 3DMark06 is a PC benchmark suite designed to test the DirectX9 performance of your graphics card. A 3DMark score is an overall measure of your system’s 3D gaming capabilities, based on comprehensive real-time 3D graphics and processor tests.

uGuru -uGuru is an ABIT LGA 775 IN9 32X Max motherboard specific program that is used to report and set various parameters associated with your computer for overclocking.
