On June 30th, I attended the Cybernetics and Information Technologies, Systems and Applications (CITSA 2008) Conference at the Rosen Centre Hotel. There I delivered <this presentation> on <research> benchmarking the performance of Fuzzy SART, Fuzzy ART and Gaussian ART's ability to automatically detect planar structures within LiDAR data. The conference committee selected me to serve as one of the conference chairs for the Information and Computing Technologies II session. You can find both the conference paper and the presentation delivered hosted in the published works section of the website.

Machine Learning Lab Logo On Monday, May 19, 2008 at 6pm in Room 450 I delivered <this seminar> to UCF's Machine Learning Lab. My presentation is entitled “Beginner’s Guide to LiDAR Research.” The main objective of the presentation was to provide an overview of a collection of key conference and journal papers on LiDAR as well as share my experiences thus far in researching LiDAR. This overview was orientated towards supplying other members of the Lab with a fundamental understanding of LiDAR concepts, an idea of what LiDAR problems have been ‘solved’ and what problems still pose a challenge to the academic community, and finally some other experiences that will help the lab members as fellow researchers. The motivation for doing this is to empower the lab members with the ability to apply image processing and machine learning topics towards solving the many problems the academia is currently addressing with LiDAR processing.

During March 12 - 14, Dr. Takis Kasparis (my advisor) attended the International Symposium on Communications, Control and Signal Processing (ISCCSP 2008) Conference in Malta. There, Dr. Kasparis presented <this poster> on <research> covering a proposed approach for unsupervised building detection in LiDAR from hierarchical, triangulated connected sets. You can find both the presentation poster and the conference paper hosted in the published works section of the website.

Harris LogoOn Wednesday, December 19 I presented my recent progress with using Hierarchical, Triangulated Connected Sets for Building Detection from Irregular LiDAR data at the Harris Corporation facility in Melborne. Senior research scientist Dr. Andy Lee, along with 2 other PhD's, and six other engineers (all of which working either directly in or areas related to LiDAR data) attended my 90 minute talk. My adviser, Dr. Takis Kasparis, and I recently received news that this building detection work has been accepted for publication in the 'The 5th International Conference On Cybernetics and Information Technologies, Systems and Applications: CITSA 2008'.
